2014: What Kind of Year Can You Expect?

The Year of the Green Wood Horse

Year of the Wood Horse

The 2014 Chinese Lunar New Year is January 31st! This year, the Year of the Horse is paired with the element of Wood, so this is a very dynamic combination! In all of the 12 Chinese Zodiacs  (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig), Horses are the most dynamic animal. They hold the energy of the Fire element, so the Wood element this year fuels the Fire, making it a very dynamic year ahead!

People born in a Horse year (1906, 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014) are full of passion and enthusiasm, with strength and intelligence. The Horse represents the peak of Summer and noon time with lots of energy and vibrancy.

While the Snake (2013) was most focused on home and family environments, the Horses are very social animals and this can be a very social year bringing new friends and celebrations!

There is also a danger of overindulgence this year.  Horses tend to be very optimistic and sometimes not very realistic. They often need direction or they may flounder a bit in life. But well-supported, a Horse person can accomplish much!  So, as with any energy, moderation and balance is the key to success.

There is a rebellious nature associated with the horse. In the larger world arena, leaders need to caution against oppressing freedom. The economy may become even more volatile and people will be concerned for their jobs. They will continue to be cautious about spending. Human disasters, caused by unscrupulous governments, will be a concern.

The Horse is most compatible with the Goat (1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003) and has a “Three Harmony” (Good Friends) relationship with the Tiger (1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010) and Dog (1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006).

If you are not a Goat, Tiger or Dog, you can wear or carry a talisman of the Goat to provide a smoother journey this year. My friend and colleague, Marina Lighthouse, has a website that carries these beautiful talismans and has just published her annual Chinese New Year ebook on the energy of the Wood Horse (pictured above).

All the best to you and have a wonderful, successful, healthy New Year!
