Happy “Sun Standing Still” Day!

Enjoying a refreshing drink on my deck with my laptop and dog on-hand, I relish this day.

All around me I see people celebrating “The First Day of Summer.” I prefer to go back to the roots of the day, going back to ancient times, when people had a deep connection to the earth, sun, and natural world around them. They called this the summer solstice: a Latin term meaning “sun standing still.”

The sun is at it’s peak in the sky; we are at the very peak of daylight during the year. And yet there are seeds of darkness…

Learning and practicing Feng Shui helps me to see the world through “Feng Shui Eyes.” The ancient Chinese studied the natural world and gained  profound wisdom about the inner workings of the universe.

They understood that life is constant change and cycles back and forth between the yin and the yang. And so we are at the peak of the Yang energy, the male energy, the brightest, hottest, liveliest time of the year. And even in this time of great light, there are seeds of darkness or Yin energy.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but tomorrow’s sun will set earlier than today, and each day forward until we reach the winter solstice.

Relish this day and the light it brings and start preparing for the darkness.

Happy Summer Solstice!
